THE MAGNIFICENT, almost ambient, music of French composer Claude Debussy will be performed in Galway by one of the leading Debussy interpreters - Japanese pianist Noriko Ogawa.
Noriko Ogawa will play in the Aula Maxima, NUIG, on Wednesday October 8 at 8pm. The concert is entitled Refreshing Breeze... and will include Debussy’s Images Book I and II, Arabesque no 1, Étude Pour Les Cinq Doigts, Étude Pour Tierces, and of course ‘Clair de Lune’. There will also be music by Dai Fujikura and Liszt.
Noriko has won high praise for her piano playing and performances of Debussy’s music. The Yorkshire Post said: “Even in Debussy’s shimmering passages, you still hear every note, her ability to caress the most magical pianissimos teasing your sensibilities to sample the world of pure beauty.”
The Japanese Ministry of Education awarded Noriko its art prize in recognition of her contribution to the cultural profile of Japan throughout the world. She was also awarded the Okura Prize for her outstanding contribution to music in Japan. A regular contributor to the music press, Noriko recently published her first book, Together With The Piano, in Japan to great success.
Tickets are €20/16/6 from Music for Galway on 091 - 705962, [email protected], or Opus II, St Augustine Street.
