TEDFEST, THE annual celebration of all things Fr Ted, takes place each year on the Aran Islands, but this year some of the fun will also be happening in Galway city.
The Tedfest table quiz is in Massimo, Sea Road, on Monday March 1 at 8pm. The first prize is four weekend passes to Tedfest 4. There will be loads of other great prizes as well as cups of tea (Very well, say it...Go wan, go wan, go wan, go wan, go wan, go wan, go wan... ). Tables cost €30 for a team of four.
The Tedfest Toilet Duck Award 2010 will be held in the Róisín Dubh on Tuesday March 2 at 9pm.
The event will see 16 of Ireland’s best up and coming comedians go head to head in a comedic war of wits. Each comedian gets just two minutes to impress the audience, and then half are eliminated by audience vote.
The eight survivors get an extra minute for their next set, after which they are reduced to four. The four semi finalists get four minutes each, and then the audience cuts them down to two.
The final round gives the two remaining comedians five minutes each to impress the audience. The winner will enjoy bragging rights, a cash prize, and the Toilet Duck Award.
The MC for the night will be Steve Cummins and the comedians taking part are Gary Lynch, Damon Blake, Bernard Higgins, Danny Dowling, Vinny McHale, Gerry McBride, Eanna O’Dowd, Ian Perth, Padraig Staunton, John Donnellan, Lisa Joyce, Eoin O’Sullivan, Tomie James, Dave O’Gorman, Johnny ‘Great Craic’ Graham, and Ben Buckley.
On Wednesday March 3 at 9pm The Laughter Lounge in the Róisín Dubh and Tedfest 2010 presents two of the stars of Fr Ted - Joe Rooney (Fr Damo ) and Patrick McDonnell (Eoin McLove ) - and the First Annual Galway Lovely Girls Competition.
Joe Rooney started his career as one half of The Quacksquad, a comedy duo that went on to write and perform on Nighthawks, The Late Late Show, and RTÉ’s first sitcom Flatheads. He has since appeared in Fr Ted and Kilnascully and is a popular stand up on the live circuit.
As well as playing Eoin McLove in Fr Ted, Patrick McDonnell is also well known for his hilarious characters on Naked Camera. Support on the night comes from former priest turned comic (and Tedfest Toilet Duck Award 09 winner ) FJ Murray.
The Lovely Girls Competition seeks four girls to enter on the night. To apply write 100 words e-mail to [email protected] saying why you are a lovely girl. Also attach a photo.
