YOU KNOW that super catchy song from the Discover Northern Ireland ads, ‘Long May You Reign?’ Well it’s part of a pretty nice collection of songs by John, Shelly and The Creatures.
The album, Dinosaur is a pleasant surprise of laid back tunes, gritty lyrics, and catchy melodies.
The band formed in February 2007 after a chance meeting in Berlin with two homeless Irish twins named John and Shelly, and are made up of band members: Kevin Carlisle (drums, percussion, and vox ), Philip Watts d’Alton (guitar, vox, keys, bass, mandolin ), Ger Gormley (bass, guitar, mandolin, vox ), and Walter (guitar, vox, keys, programming and drums ).
The band say their sound is influenced by a wide variety of genres, and that they are unafraid to mix things up when it comes to recording and playing live.
There are certainly hints of Mundy (‘Blinded & Cross’ ), Biffy Clyro (‘Fools’ ), and perhaps Death Cab For Cutie too (‘Marley Street’ ). Either way the album is both energetic and mellow, with all 12 tracks offering something creative and unique. And one thing is for sure, ‘Long May You Reign’ is very catchy.
