Fergal Walsh memorial gig

THE UNTIMELY passing last month of the much loved and respected Galway based Mayo musician, Fergal Walsh, comes as a great shock to many musicians, colleagues, family, and friends here in Galway and throughout the country.

Fergal was a well known recording and performing artist who specialised in guitar, as well as playing piano and bouzouki in many genres and acts from trad and jazz to rock and contemporary.

Fergal studied in the Newpark Music Centre under Ronan Guilfoyle for two years. He also received an MA in community music in Limerick and a HND in traditional music in Ballyfermot. Fergal also spent a number of years as a primary school teacher in Dublin following a B ED in St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra.

In recent months Fergal acted in the Galway based theatre company Exit Productions’ adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Comedy Of Errors. Fergal also worked in Ability West.

Tomorrow a music and performance memorial concert will be held in De Burgo’s from 8pm. The concert will bring together acts from all over the country who have connections to Fergal and anyone who knew Fergal is welcome to attend.

All donations on the night will go to Fergals charity of choice PETA. See www.peta.org
