Counselling - an aid to help create change in your life

Are issues getting swept under the carpet at your home? Are you worried about your child or teenager’s emotional state or their behaviour when you are not around? Do you find yourself in constant conflict with your spouse or children?

If so, counselling may be the way forward, according to two US trained mental health professionals who have teamed up to provide individual and family counselling to young people and their families in Galway.

Traci Uemura and Christina McDermott both trained as counsellors in the United States. Traci is a California state-licensed marriage and family therapist with a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University, California, while Christina is a trained counsellor with a master’s degree in counselling from the University of Missouri St Louis.

They describe counselling as an aid to help create change in your life. “It is a process directed towards increased self-awareness, higher functioning, improved relationships with family and friends and personal growth.”

Both counsellors specialise in the treatment of children, adolescents and their families. They have significant experience dealing with a wide range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, substance abuse, eating disorders, parenting concerns and school-related issues in young people.

Their office is located at the Sirius Centre, North Point, Tuam Road. For individual or family counselling contact Christina at (086 ) 7903481 and Traci at (086 ) 8938634.
