Galway city’s arts community must come together as a united voice to express their opinions on the Draft Galway City Arts Strategy before it is finalised.
This is the view of Green Party senator Niall Ó Brolcháin who made his call at the Creating a Sustainable Future for the Arts in Galway meeting at Bar No 8 on Monday. The draft Galway City Arts Strategy will be published this month.
Mairead Ní Chronin, co-director of local company Moonfish Theatre, chaired the meeting and was impressed by the resolve of the assembled artists to continue working in Galway, come what may.
“It was great to see the arts community coming together, in particular to see a younger generation of artists, who want to keep working in Galway,” she said. “They are taking an active interest in how to make this possible in the current economic climate and are trying new and innovative ways to make this happen.”
Ms Ní Chronin said “strong ideas and initiatives” were put forward and it was “very inspiring to hear the level of commitment from young and old” to ensuring there is a “sustainable future for the arts in Galway
