Cuddy welcomes grant for design stage of the Claregalway Inner Relief Road

Funding of €228,148 has been allocated for the design stage of the Claregalway Inner Relief Road under the 2010 Regional and Local Roads Programme.

The announcement of the grants was made on Monday and the news has been welcomed by Independent councillor Jim Cuddy. “This means that the Claregalway Inner Relief Road remains on track, despite the difficult economic circumstances at the moment,” he said.

Cllr Cuddy has also welcomed €30,000 for traffic lights on the Cregmore Bridge under the Low Cost Safety Improvement Grants.

“This will considerably improve safety on this bridge,” he said, “which is necessary given the huge increase in the volume of traffic in Cregmore and the surrounding areas over the last number of years.”

The 2010 Regional and Local Roads Programme also allocated €75,000 for work on the junction and alignment of the road at Peggy’s Bar, Corrundulla. Fianna Fáil councillor Mary Hoade welcomed this grant saying, “This will greatly improve the sight distance at this very dangerous junction, and make the area much safer for pedestrians, and motorists.”
