Bang a drum and raise money for Haiti

On Sunday more than 100 Tribal Spirit Drummers from across Ireland will gather in NUI, Galway in a fundraising event for earthquake relief in Haiti.

The drummers will play rhythms and songs from Haiti and Africa from 4.30pm to 6pm, and will be the culmination of a day of family events in the university’s student centre.

The day opens with a drum workshop led by John Bowker, Ireland's leading drum circle facilitator, from 12.30pm to 2pm. Participants will learn the rhythms and drum skills to take part in the final concert. There will also be a dance workshop from 2pm to 3pm, and a chant and song workshop from 3pm to 4pm.

All workshops are suitable for beginners and drums will be provided. There will also be a flea market and face-painters. Those who have items of interest for sale or who would like to set up a stall should contact Anet on 086 - 3541328.

All proceeds from this event will go to the Haiti relief fund. Tribal Spirit Drummers took to the streets of Galway over the past few weekends to raise money for Haiti, collecting €10,000. All money raised was given to Medicans Sans Frontier and Oxfam. For more information see www.tribalspiritdrumming.org
