Danish man dies suddenly while working on Loughrea wind turbine

A man has died suddenly while working on a wind turbine in south Galway.

Niels Jakob Lausten (42 ), a maintenance engineer, died suddenly while servicing a turbine at Derrybrien last week.

It is understood Mr Lausten, a Danish national who had been living in Ireland for a number of years, was strapped to a ladder harness while working on the turbine when he became unwell.

He began to climb down the 60 metre structure, however he suffered a suspected heart attack on his descent.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to UHG where a post mortem examination was carried out.

Mr Lausten had been living in New Ross, Co Wexford, for the past eight years and worked on maintaining wind turbines around the country.

He came to Ireland in June 2002 as part of an engineering team with 'Vestas', who installed the wind turbines off Carnsore Point.

Gardaí have confirmed they are not treating Mr Lausten’s death as suspicious
