Don’t leave boxes and bags outside bottle banks says McNelis

People leaving bottles in the city’s bottle banks should not leave behind boxes and bags that have been used to carry the glass, but should carry it home.

This is the view of Labour councillor Niall McNelis who said the dumping of boxes and bags at bottle banks “has to stop”.

Cllr McNelis said Galway’s bottle bank at Threadneedle Road is the “busiest bottle bank outside of Dublin, and he said those who use it “must be commended”. However “a small minority” leave behind the boxes and bags used to carry the glass and this creates unsightly litter around the banks.

“The city council does not have the resources or funds to be cleaning up others’ laziness,” he said. “The majority come in a car to bottle banks. It’s very simple, put your rubbish back in the car and bring it home
