Ballinasloe will be included in the major new Shannon Flood Risk Management Study to be commissioned by the Office of Public Works in the summer.
It is understood that Ballinasloe will be included as “an area of significant risk” and that the study will “examine the options for dealing with flood risk in the greater Ballinasloe area” in a co-ordinated and integrated manner. The town will be targeted for interim mitigation flood risk measures.
Fianna Fáil Galway East TD Noel Treacy was informed of the study by the Minister with Responsibility for the Office of Public Works and Flooding, Dr Martin Mansergh.
“Dr Mansergh spent two days in Ballinasloe recently and he knows the severity of the flooding risk in the town and across the greater Galway east area,” said Dep Treacy. “He expects that Ballinasloe will be included as an area of significant flood risk in the study.”
Dep Treacy said Ballinasloe “was hit very badly by the recent flooding” and that he will “remain in contact with Dr Mansergh about the needs of the town
