The Mathematics and Computing department at GMIT is inviting interested local businesses and the general public to a Digital Media (web based design ) Open day to be held in the Digital Media Computer Centre at Cluann Mhuire.
The event will take place on Monday 20th October between 10am to 12 noon and business people and the general public are invited to gp along and view a selection of completed web sites that have been developed by students as part of their BSc degree in business computing and digital media.
The websites being showcased have been developed in the last six months and are now actually live and up and running. The development of these websites came about as a result of the highly successful inaugural GMIT Digital Media Open day earlier this year which was attended by some 80 representatives from business and industry in the west.
The lecturer/co-ordinator who works with these students in a mentor/director capacity is Dr Robert J Loughnane and he feels that this open day is essential for students and local business people to have the opportunity to exchange views and develop ideas relating to realistic business based web designs.
Furthermore, Dr Loughnane says it is a timely venture in view of the downturn in the economy and the urgent need for job creation and creative thinking.
“In essence this Open Day is a forum for the local business community to exchange innovative ideas with creative young students on the BSc in business computing and digital media, and to avail of expertise from the GMIT Digital Media Centre.”
The BSc in Applied digital media and business applications programme is pushing the boundaries of web site development and is continually being updated to reflect all modern developments in information and communications technology.
