The first Gort People of the Year Awards will take place later this month.
The awards, which will be presented at a gala event in the Lady Gregory Hotel on Saturday October 18, will see people honoured for their achievements and contribution to the community in eight categories and the presentation of the overall Gort Person of the Year award.
Gareth O’Callaghan of Galway Bay FM will present the awards following a five-course dinner.
Nominees for the awards were provided by the people of Gort and the surrounding area and adjudicated by an independent panel of judges. The organisers have said they are delighted with the response to the event.
Proceeds from the awards night will support the local St Vincent de Paul Society and Social Services. Muriel O'Connor and her band will provide music. Local charity event organisers Five Star will provide stage management on the night.
A limited number of tickets for the award ceremony are now available from Gort Credit Union.
