Nine children’s groups in Galway have topped the local vote in AIB’s Better Ireland Programme. They have each received a donation of €10,000 from AIB branches in their area.
This donation of €90,000 will benefit a special needs education project, two primary schools, a mother and babies group, a youth club, two special schools, a homework club, and an education and development centre.
The groups chosen for funding by way of public text vote are: Soilse service for children with special needs, which received a donation from AIB Athenry; Doughiska Mother and Babies Group, AIB Eyre Square; Lough Graney Youth Club, AIB Gort; St Ita’s National School, AIB Loughrea; Scoil Chroí Íosa, AIB Lynch’s Castle; Ábalta Special School, AIB Newcastle Road; Scoil Bhride homework club, AIB Salthill; St Oliver’s Child Education and Development Centre, AIB Tuam; and St Joseph’s Special Primary School, AIB Tuam Road.
“We would like to congratulate all the groups for their success in the public text vote competition in Galway and extend our thanks to all those who voted,” said Pat Heelan, AIB regional director for Galway, at the presentation. “We’re looking forward to seeing all the projects progress over the coming months. We had a fantastic response to the voting stage of the programme with 308,011 votes received nationwide and 20,446 in Galway alone. The success is primarily due to the enthusiasm and energy that all the groups put into campaigning at a local level. ”
