Recycling your favourite pieces (part two): The dress

Continuing on our journey to learn how to recycle our favourite pieces, this week I would like to show you how to transform your dress.

You may have a gorgeous dress that you bought a while ago and wore just a few times. As you have paid good money for it or you love it and want to wear it more often, here are two simple steps to follow to revamp it.

First, look at the style: If the dress is simple enough, this will give you more choice of combinations to create, and the dress will take you from work to a function or a wedding.

If the dress is less simple you may find that you are a little more restricted but still have the choice to change the accessories to maybe two other colours, such as changing the colour of your shoes.

Secondly, look at the colours and patterns. If the dress has a vibrant colour and you want to tune it down chose neutral colours for accessories. If you want your look to be more dramatic then choose another vibrant colour. For example if the dress is purple then yellow will go well with it, this combination would be great for a wedding or the races.

I chose this purple dress by Phase Eight as my main piece to recycle. The simplicity of the dress makes it very easy to transform. For the first look I have teamed it with a short cream jacket from Phase Eight, cream and white pumps from LK Bennett, and a thin black belt from Monsoon. The belt is to be worn over the jacket.

The second look is a little more on the quirky side. I chose this grey leather belt from Oasis and I teamed it with grey high heels from Marks and Spencer and to introduce a splash of colour added an orange bracelet from Penney’s.
