KatCross’ Gallic exploration of sound

FINLEY QUAYE will play the Róisín Dubh on Friday February 26 at 8pm, no doubt performing his breezy hit from all those years ago ‘Your Love Gets Sweeter’.

However the support act that night is well worth checking out (regardless of whether you’re into Finley Quaye or not ) - French band KatCross & Talkative.

Along with Fedaden (machines and effects ), Mathieu Blanc (guitar ), Trevoraci Ous (guitar/voice ), Kat Cross creates music in which electro and acoustic meet, where classical and pop join hands.

A classically trained musician, Kat began exploring rock, punk, pop, and avant garde music when she obtained a keyboard and PC in 1989. She started to create her own music and converted part of her home into a studio. It was there she began to explore the possibilities of her singing voice.

Trip hop pioneer Tricky was impressed with Kat and selected her song Symphony For Irony for his Back To Mine compilation which also included Chet Baker, Kate Bush, Gregory Isaac, and The Cure.

Kat eventually released her debut album Work In Progress and saw it enjoy critical acclaim. Her second album Déjà Vu was released this month. However the studio sound of these songs is quite different from how they sound live.

The studio versions are ethereal, ambient, emotional, and defined. On stage, they take on radical new directions. This is highlighted by the fact that Kat’s concerts also include the experimental visual performance, La Trajectoire Des Immobiles, orchestrated by French visual performance artist Natasha Kail. La Trajectoire... is based on the decomposition of movements until its essence, the narration, turn into choreography.
