Inter-personal difficulties will not stop Mayor’s Awards

The Mayor’s Awards will be going ahead as planned and nothing will be getting in the way of honouring the work of community groups and individuals in the city, according to Mayor of Galway Cllr Padraig Conneely.

There was speculation this week that the annual Mayor’s Awards may be in jeopardy owing to the inter-personal difficulties that exist between the Mayor and Independent Cllr Daniel Callanan.

Both men sit on the awards selection committee but both have had very public disagreements over allegations that the Mayor was able to avoid paying a clamping fine.

“I would hope the Mayor’s Awards are not in jeopardy,” Mayor Conneely told the Galway Advertiser. “As far as I am concerned they are going ahead. There are a lot of community groups and individuals I want to honour and it will take place as it has done for the past number of years.”
