As the National Hurling League gets under way, Galway has been boosted with its long-time sponsor Supermac’s agreeing to continue its financial support for another two years.
Supermac’s, led by owner Pat McDonagh, first became the title sponsor 20 years ago in what has become one of the longest surviving sponsorships in Galway sport.
According to the company more than €1 million has been put into Galway hurling at all levels during this time period.
Supermac’s managing director Pat McDonagh says sports sponsorship is very important to Supermac’s“Sports sponsorship is very important to Supermac’s.
“ I see the benefits of sports having a wider effect throughout our society. From working with teams at primary school level right through to senior county teams, the discipline and commitment required are solid lessons learned by players which translate into many other aspects of their lives such as school, work, their families, and society. Sport brings communities together in a unique way.
“The health benefits gained, both physically and mentally, are evident when you look at sports people,” says McDonagh.
Hurling board chairman Joe Byrne says it is “positive and uplifting to see a business willing to get behind sport at this level and uphold their long-standing commitment to the game”.
