Arts Council allocates almost €4 million to Galway

Galway is to receive almost €4 million in funding from the Arts Council to support theatre, dance, music, exhibitions, readings, and other performances across the city and county.

Thirty organisations will receive funding from the Arts Council’s three main grants programmes. Artists and arts organisations will be also be able to apply for a range of bursary awards, travel and training, and Deis awards and projects, and commissions awards over the course of the year.

The organisations to receive Arts Council funding in County Galway are: Druid Theatre Company (€840,000 ), Galway Arts Festival (€505,000 ), Ealain Na Gaeltachta (€433,000 ), Galway Arts Centre (€315,000 ), Macnas (€250,000 ), Baboró International Children’s Festival (€200,000 ), Galway Film Fleadh (€175,000 ), Town Hall Theatre (€155,000 ), Galway Film Centre (€105,000 ).

Allocations were also made to the various galleries and artist run collectives in the city: Tulca festival of visual art (€55,000 ), Artspace Studios Ltd (€35,000 ), Lorg Printmakers (€25,000 ), 126 gallery (€13,500 ), and Engage Art Studios (€10,000 ).

Other beneficiaries are Cló Iar-Chonnachta Teo (€70,000 ), Clifden Community Arts Week (€70,000 ), Galway County Council (€67,000 ), Cinemobile (€62,000 ), Galway Ensemble in Residence (€55,000 ), Galway Youth Theatre (€42,200 ), Music for Galway (€40,000 ), Fibin Teo (€40,000 ), Áras Éanna (€32,000 ), Galway City Council (€30,000 ), Galway Community Circus (€19,900 ), Futa Fata (€10,500 ), Clifden Arts Society (€10,200 ), Youth Ballet West (€10,000 ), Concorde (€8,500 ), and Cups and Crowns Educational Theatre (€3,300 ).

As well as its grant from the Arts Council, there was also good news for the Galway Arts Festival which won the Best Medium Festival award from The Irish Festival Awards 2009, which were announced in Dublin recently
