Voluntary groups and education bodies in County Galway can apply for funding under a new EU initiative which aims to help raise awareness about the EU in their community.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is administering the fund and consideration will be given to proposals for events, large or small, that are organised to celebrate Europe Day on May 9 in County Galway.
Last year 40 projects nationwide received support. The projects ranged from a special article in Birdwatch Ireland, a Europe week on Tipperary Mid-West radio, a celebration of Irish entrepreneurs in the EU, the publication of the Eurochild Anthology of poetry and art, and a seminar on the EU White Paper on Sport organised by the Special Olympics.
Galway East Fianna Fáil Dáil Deputy Noel Treacy is encouraging Galway groups in the county and city to get involved and apply for funds.
Application forms and further details are available from www.eumatters.ie or by contacting Maura Duffy, EU Division, Department of Foreign Affairs, 76/78 Harcourt Street, Dublin 2. The deadline for applications is Friday March 5.
