Comedian Tommy Tiernan and performance poet Mags Treanor will launch Galway’s first ‘Story Slam’ event Loose Lips in the Róisín Dubh on Wednesday February 24.
Galway is well familiar with the poetry slam, where poets stand in front of an audience and recite a poem, often from memory, while acting and performing the work, to give it a greater sense of drama.
Loose Lips will do the same, only using stories and tales instead of poetry. On the last Wednesday of each month Tommy and Mags will host the event, which will see 10 members of the public take to the stage and tell their story in under five minutes.
Each month’s session will revolve around a different theme and stories have to relate to it. Loose Lips is not a platform to discover up and coming writers or comedians, and it is not a competition. It is an evening where all can come along and tell their story, whether it be tragic, heart rending, or hilarious.
Those who wish to take part can register on the night and 10 names will be pulled from a hat to decide who tells a story. The theme for the first Loose Lips event is ‘Siblings’.
Admission is €5 and registration starts at 8.30pm/. For more information contact Mags on 087 - 6500700.
