County council receives major grant for roadworks

A total of €205,000 is to be spent for repair and maintenance work on roads throughout the county under the Early Start Programme for 2010.

The Galway County Council has been given €90,000 for work on the Ballinvoher Road; €25,000 on the Coolarne Road; and sums of €30,000 each for the Athenry to Tuam Road; the Cregmore Road, and the Lydican Road.

The news has been welcomed by Independent councillor Jim Cuddy.

“Given the flooding in November followed by severe frost over the New Year, the local roads are now in a terrible state,” he said. “That work is to commence immediately will be welcome news for local residents, many of whom have damaged tyres in recent weeks because of the condition of the roads
