Events taking place this week as part of the Coole Park Spring Programme will celebrate Galway’s musical and natural heritage.
Today (Thursday ) will see an evening of classical music at Coole with the Cantabile Trio offering music for violin, viola, and piano ranging from Bach and Mozart to Debussy. The Cantabile Trio are made up of artists Tom Murphy on violin/viola, Katharina Baker on violin/viola, and Rachael McCall on piano. The event will take place from 8pm to 9pm.
The highlight of this year’s spring programme will be a performance by Julie Feeney in Coole on Monday from 8pm to 9pm. Galwegian Julie Feeney released her spellbinding second album Pages to critical acclaim last year. The album is nominated for the prestigious Irish Album of the Year - Choice Music Prize 2010. She was also recently nominated for a Meteor Best Irish Female award. An acclaimed producer, composer, orchestrator, singer, conductor, performer, and instrumentalist, Feeney first won the Choice Music Prize with her debut album 13 Songs which was self produced and self released, with Feeney having played 11 instruments on the album. She later orchestrated the album for the 65 piece Ulster Orchestra with whom she performed, and premiered other concert commissions as a composer and conductor in the UK and Ireland. On Pages she sang, composed, and produced the songs in their entirety and conducted the Irish Chamber Orchestra on all of the instrumental music. She will headline at the National Concert Hall in May. This event is now booked out. Anyone who has booked the Coole performance and cannot make is asked to contact Coole Park Visitor Centre as there is now a waiting list for this concert.
Coole Park will mark World Wetlands Day and Biodiversity 2010 on Sunday with events taking place from 2pm to 4pm. Take a walk to the internationally famous turlough/lake at Coole with National Parks and Wildlife Service staff as part of World Wetlands Day. Gordon D’Arcy, natural heritage expert and artist, will host a children’s art workshops on the day. An ongoing slideshow of images of the Coole turlough/lake through the seasons will be on display. Advanced booking is required for the art workshops. This is one of Coole Park’s family fun days that are always well attended and provide much fun for the children who attend.
All events in the Coole Park Spring 2010 programme are free. Programmes are available locally in Coole, Gort, surrounding towns and villages, and in Galway city.
