Revenue raids target local taxi sector in green diesel probe

Revenue officers investigating the misuse of marked diesel, mounted a blitz on local taxi drivers in the past few days.

The joint effort between staff at the Department of Social and Family Affairs, along with the assistance of workers at the Office of The Taxi Regulator and An Garda Siochana caught drivers by surprise and was deemed a success by revenue officials.

The aim of the Revenue in this event was to ensure compliance with tax regulations and also to investigate any misuses of marked gas oil (green diesel ).

At such an early stage, Revenue is still working to assess the information obtained but believes the operation to be a success.

Revenue claims that it is operations like these that play a key part in their endeavours to manage the risks inherent in the shadow economy and show vitally important in controlling tax compliance through public visibility.
