Galway junior squash player Jennifer Hegarty claimed the u-19 title at the Leinster Junior Open in Dublin last weekend.
One of the 15-member squad who represented the Galway Lawn Tennis Club, Hegarty faced strong opposition in the final where she defeated Katelyn Doran from Carlow 3-1. Although Doran claimed the first game, Hegarty, the higher ranked of the two, showed her experience and came back to win the next three games to claim her first junior title of the season.
Conor O’Shea (Salthill ) also finished strongly in the boys u-17 section where he was defeated by Sean Conroy (Dublin ) in a closely-fought final, narrowly missing out on adding the Leinster title to the wins he had in both Munster and Ulster.
