NUIG Italian Society to host masquerade ball

Time to dust off that ball gown and find yourself the most alluring mask you can find as the NUI Galway Italian Society is hosting its annual Carnevale Masquerade Ball on February 12 from 6pm in the Galway Bay Hotel.

The Carnevale is a festival in Venice that begins around two weeks before Lent and ends on Shrove Tuesday. Everyone wears elaborate masks and costumes, making it one of the most awesome events you can possibly witness in Italy. The Italian Society’s Carnevale Masquerade Ball is a celebration of this festival that the Italian people cherish so dearly. To take part in this ball is to also take part in and celebrate Italian culture at its best. Also, with the ball being so close to Valentine’s Day, a ticket to this event would make the ultimate Valentine’s Day present.

Tickets to the event are available now in Charlies Byrne’s Bookshop, Cornstore Mall, Middle Street, Galway, until February 1 and cost €45 each. This includes a wine reception and three course meal as well as music from the band FYC and fifties/rockabilly style DJ Kit Kola. This year, proceeds from the ball go to the local charity Ability West, which helps people with intellectual disabilities fulfil their true potential. Last year’s ball raised €2,750 for the Galway charity COPE so it is hoped that this year this figure will be surpassed.
