Young Galway inventors sought for Junior Inventor Competition

Young inventors in Co Galway with ideas for new products, improvements to existing ones, or ideas that can solve problems are encouraged to enter the Junior Inventor Competition.

The aim of the Junior Inventor Competition, run by the Irish Patents Office, is to encourage students to be innovative and to sow the seeds of interest in science and engineering at an early age.

There are two categories; one from first class to third class and another from fourth class to sixth class. Prizes will be awarded in both categories and the people placed first in each of the categories will also win a prize for their school.

Galway East Fianna Fáil Dáil TD Noel Treacy is encouraging pupils to take part. “I would like to encourage all primary level students in County Galway to get their thinking caps on and to consider entering this innovative competition,” he said.

All Co Galway primary schools will receive information about the competition and details are also be available on the Patents Office website at www.patentsoffice.ie

The closing date for entries is Friday March 26 at 5.30pm and the address to send entries to is Junior Inventor 2010, Patents Office, Government Buildings, Hebron Road, Kilkenny.
