Galway to have its say on Draft Development Plan

Galwegians will be able to have their say on the Draft City Development Plan 2011 - 2017 once it goes on public display at the end of this month.

The Draft Development Plan was discussed at Monday’s city council meeting. Among its recommendations are that 30 per cent of the proposed developments to the Docks and to Ceannt Station be residential and that 20 per cent of these units be for social and affordable housing.

The plan also proposes to allow a higher density of floor space in city centre developments as it is believed this will allow business to expand and develop in the city.

The coucnil will meet tomorrow in City Hall at 2pm to further discuss the draft plan. Councillors will make a decision by or on January 22 to allow the draft plan to go on public display.

This will also give Galwegians a 10 week period to make submissions, suggestions, and observations to and for including in the plan. Once this is done the plan will come back to councillors for final approval.
