A guitar is not just for Christmas

Important news for anyone who was good enough all year to get a guitar from Santa, and would now like to learn how to play it! Guitar Made Easy is a 10 week course for complete beginners, and starts in Oranmore, Galway, Tuam and Castlebar the week beginning Monday January 18, 2010. These group classes are suitable for ages 10 upwards, and will be especially useful for those who think they are too old at 40!

Kevin McNicholas, tutor on Guitar Made Easy says this course is designed to be fast, fun and easy.

“The classes are very informal, there are no exams and you don’t need to learn to read music. Whatever type of music you like, be it rock, folk, pop, blues, country, trad or metal, these classes will teach you in 10 weeks what could take you a couple of years to learn, if you set out to teach yourself.’

Kevin stresses that his method of teaching the guitar differs from the established norm. “On this course, playing music is regarded as a skill, not a talent. In the same way that anybody can learn to cook, swim, drive, or type, so I believe that anybody can learn to play the guitar. Talent doesn’t come into it. Plenty of practice does. I meet people every day who say they would love to learn to play, but they feel inhibited because they know absolutely nothing about music. Guitar Made Easy classes are custom-made for such people. As long as you can count to four and know the alphabet to G, I’ll look after the rest.”

Classes run in Oranmore on Mondays, Galway on Tuesdays, Tuam on Wednesdays and Castlebar on Thursdays. Two classes are held each evening, at 7.00pm and 8.15pm. The fee is €180.00 for 10 weeks and booking is through Kevin McNicholas, Donaghpatrick, Headford. Kevin can be contacted at 093-36724.
