Your resolutions might be related to identifying your own style, understanding what suits you, or acquiring pieces throughout the year; so if you are embarking on a style journey this year, here are some of my fashion and style resolutions for 2010!
Embrace your curves
You don’t need to be a particular size or height to look your best. It is about understanding what suits you. If you wear the right clothes for your shape, you will accentuate your best features making you look slimmer, taller, younger, etc. Start by learning what shape you are and what type of clothing and accessories you should wear. This also involves learning your “wow colours” and the ones that you should avoid. This step is the key to looking your best, being a more confident person, and to successful shopping.
Reduce and recycle
You may have a wardrobe full of clothes that you never or rarely wear; would you like to create various looks with staple pieces? 2010 is the year of reducing and recycling your clothes.
Start fresh with a good wardrobe weeding, and reduce the unused clothes in your wardrobe. You need to keep pieces that really fit you and flatter you. Reducing also means buying want you really need and what you love. Focus on good quality pieces that really flatter you so they will last for many years and you will wear them again and again. This is a major factor in saving money.
Recycle: Did you know that you can transform one staple item onto several outfits, using smart accessorising and other style tricks? In 2010 learn to mix and match all the pieces in your wardrobe to make a unique style and a more versatile array of clothes. For example, you can wear the same dress for various occasions by changing the accessories or adding layers of clothes.
Recycling involves using your imagination to mix and match items with new or existing pieces. If you have an old jacket left in the back of your wardrobe, and you cannot figure out what to wear it with, maybe the reason for that is because you are stuck in a “safe zone”. To break out of that safe style zone, you need to mix all the “tough to wear” pieces in your wardrobe together with your staple pieces. For example, your black jeans with a casual tank, some cute embellished pumps, and a colourful bracelet will help make you more comfortable wearing your adorable jacket on top.
Over the coming weeks I will be writing about how to recycle your favourite pieces, so watch this space.
Wear turquoise
This year try to add colour with accessories: scarves, jewellery, hats, belts, and anything else you can find. Turquoise is the official colour of 2010. Play with turquoise subtly in accessories, a hint here, a detail there. Using accessories is a cheap way to grow your wardrobe and make it easier to mix and match.
With these top resolutions in hand you will get ready to be your best dressed this year!
