Several Galway basketball clubs will be in action over the coming weeks in national cup events.
Maree men’s basketball will face Killester of Dublin in the u-20 National Cup semi-final in Neptune Stadium on Saturday January 16 at 6pm, while Maree will also contest the u-18 semi-final at the same venue against St Mary’s Castleisland at 10am.
Hopes are high Maree can continue their fine form in this competition, having won the last two u-18 National Cups, and lost the 2009 u-20 final by one point.
Calasanctius College will be in schools’ cup action in UL on Wednesday January 13. At 12.30pm, they face arch-rivals Coláiste Íosagáin in the u-16 A semi-final, and it will be the same Dublin opponents in the u-19 A semi at 3.30pm. Then at 2pm Calasanctius contests the u-19 A boys’ semi-final against Pres Bray. The u-19 girls are chasing a third consecutive All-Ireland Cup title, while the boys are looking to get to their fourth final in seven years, and their first win. The u-16 girls are looking to get to their fifth final in six years and their third win.
