The Ballyloughane Road is “nothing short of a disgrace” and repairs and reinstatement works must be carried out “immediately”, particularly in the area where new apartments are being built.
This is the view of independent councillor Terry O’Flaherty who has called on the Galway City Council to give the road “the urgent attention it deserves” as it is “an accident waiting to happen”.
According to Cllr O’Flaherty, since construction began on the new apartment block, the roadway has been deteriorating due to road openings and pipe laying.
“There are numerous potholes and large open cracks currently on the road,” she said. “During the recent Christmas holidays there were some builder’s cones and signs left strewn around the footpaths and on the roadway, which could have caused a serious accident.”
Cllr O’Flaherty said she has contacted the council “on many occasions” to highlight this issue and was assured it would instruct the construction company to carry out the necessary repairs to reinstate this roadway.
“Regretfully, to date, nothing has been done about this,” she said, “but I intend to pursue the matter vigorously as the current situation is completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated.”
