St Stephen’s Day soccer for charity

The annual Mark Reilly Memorial soccer tournament takes place on Saturday in aid of COPE.

This is the 16th year the soccer matches have been taking place on St Stephens Day at Mervue United FC. The matches raise funds for COPE Galway and are named in honour of Mark Reilly, who was tragically killed in 2005.

“This event is a great opportunity for families to come along and see the local soccer clubs plus local sports star playing soccer and to support a Galway Charity,” said Justin McDermott of COPE Galway.

The matches involve selections from local soccer clubs including Galway United FC, West United FC, Salthill Devon FC, and Mervue United FC with the first game kicking off at 11.15am. There will also be a superstars match involving local stars of all sporting codes with kick off of their match at 2pm.

All proceeds raised will be used directly by COPE Galway in its vital services for homeless men and women, women and children who experience domestic violence and older people who live in isolation in Galway.

Donations can be made directly to COPE Galway, 2-5 Calbro House, Tuam Rd, Galway or through the bank to Bank of Ireland, Sort Code: 903816, Account Number: 39096396 or at www.copegalway.ie or by calling COPE Galway on 091 778750.
