Burglar sent forward for trial

An Athlone woman accused of allegedly breaking into a Galway city restaurant and stealing cash and other property worth more than €16,000 has been sent forward for trial.

The Galway District Court heard last week how a book of evidence had been served on Martina Ward. The 26-year-old with an address at Apartment 7, Fairfield Court, Montree, Athlone, Westmeath, is charged with entering a building, known as Martine’s Restaurant, Quay Street, Galway, as a tresspasser on November 16, 2008, to commit burglary and theft of €14,851 cash, a Dell XPS laptop valued €1,200, and two ipods valued €200 each.

Inspector Ernie White informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the accused being sent forward for trial.

Judge Mary Fahy made an order for Ward to be returned for trial at the next sittings of the Galway Circuit Criminal Court commencing January 12, 2010.
