One family will spend Christmas Day enjoying the food and entertainment at The Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill as a result of a joint initiative between the hotel and Senator Fidelma Healy Eames.
Instead of sending the traditional ‘politicians’ Christmas card’ to constituents, the Fine Gael senator instead wanted to “seek a way to help a family in need”.
She proposed her idea to The Galway Bay Hotel and it was agreed that a family of two adults and up to four children will have Christmas dinner, and meet Santa on Christmas Day at the hotel. The Simon Community in Galway agreed to select the deserving family.
“It has been a bleak year with many people suffering incredible hardship,” said Sen Healy Eames. “What with job losses, homes at risk of repossession, swine flu, a harsh budget without the Christmas bonus, and to cap it all the floods, many families’ lives have completely unravelled.”
