Local theatre company wins regional business award

Galway’s Blue Teapot Theatre Company, located in Munster Avenue, this week won the Ulster Bank Business Achiever’s Award in the Social Entrepreneur Category for the Connaught region.

This category recognises businesses that focus on addressing socially based challenges and seek to achieve their goals through non-profit means.

Blue Teapot produces professional theatre with performers with learning disabilities. The company’s mission is to effect a positive change in public consciousness concerning people with disabilities through theatre by allowing the members talent and creativity speak for itself.

“We are absolutely thrilled that Ulster Bank has honoured us with this award,” said Petal Pilley, director of Blue Teapot. “Having the business community recognise the significance of social entrepreneurship means a great deal.”

Blue Teapot will compete in national awards that will take place in Dublin at a black tie event in March 2010.
