Hogar is a home for sick and destitute children located in Chaclacayo, c30 miles from Lima, the capital of Peru. The home hosts some 50 babies, children, and teenagers affected by tuberculosis, leukaemia, malnutrition, cleft palate, malformed limbs, and burns.
The children, whose parents or carers cannot afford to buy them required medicines, receive free medical care, food, and education in the home, which is run by Tony Lazzara, an American paediatrician and Peruvian staff including nurses, a physiotherapist, cooks, social worker, a teacher, volunteers, and people responsible for taking the children clinics in Lima.
Hogar runs entirely through donations and in 2010 it is going to be flanked by a new home that will function as an education centre for discharged Hogar children.
Atlantic Language is located in Fairgreen House (second floor ) on Fairgreen Road, opposite the new coach station. Tickets are €8 and can be purchased on the door.
