Comer golfs his way to man-of-the-match award

Kieran Comer had an unusual preparation for last Sunday’s Connacht club final.

“I was out in Villamoura (Portugal ) playing a few rounds of golf during the week. It was very relaxing. It was some way to prepare, but at least we avoided the floods,” Comer says.

Comer, who has collected All-Ireland medals with Corofin in 1998, and two with Galway in 2001 (seniors ) and 2002 (U-21s ), was as surprised as anyone by the ease of victory.

“I didn’t imagine it would turn out like it did. We came down to Mayo a good few times over the last ten years and we never had any luck down here. Last Sunday we had and hopefully that will continue in the All-Ireland series.”
