New photographic book to raise funds for suicide charity

A book of photographic reflections has been published in aid of Console, a local charity which creates awareness, hope and healing for people bereaved by suicide.

The book, Bright Beginnings, features a collection of thought-provoking images which highlight the wonders of everyday life, from the stillness of a summer’s morning to the glory of the setting sun.

The publication aims to show that happiness can be found in simple things.Well-known city scenes such as The Claddagh, The Galway Hooker and the Volvo Ocean Race Harbour radiate colour while unique farm wildlife in County Galway conveys a sense of community.

The book came about after the author lost a dear friend to suicide. Through the art of photography, a sense of hope and comfort was found to ease the loss. The carefully selected collection of photographs appeals to people to listen, understand and recognise that human life is precious and needs to be protected.

The publishing of Bright Beginnings, which retails at €10, has been sponsored by the Galway-based Community Heart Awards, an organisation which supports people and charities since its inception in 2000.

Its founder business woman, Maureen Cahalan, recognised the positive impact such a book could have.

“Of all the times in our lives now is probably the most important to highlight the need of community involvement. Nothing compares to a handshake, a smile and the warmth of expression between two people. Bright Beginnings reflects this need in a beautiful and positive way which draws on human connections.”

Bright Beginnings is available from Easons and also from Console’s stand at the Eyre Square Centre on Sunday or from Margaret Tierney, Console at (091 ) 480080 or e-mail [email protected]
