Renowned harpist to play at Gort

ANN HAYMANN, the world-renowned harper and expert on the ancient Irish harp, will play the Gort Library on Friday December 4 at 8pm.

Ann, along with her husband Charlie, perform under the name Clairseach (Irish for Gaelic harp ), and on the night, as well as a performance from Ann, there will be music and poetry from Charlie. The event is organised by The Western Writers’ Centre.

“It’s a blending of the very ancient format of poetry and harp music,” says centre director Fred Johnston. “There is a tendency with contemporary poets, especially younger ones, to neglect the traditional bond between music and poetry. We are delighted to have Ann and Charlie visit us.”

Ann and Charlie perform a broad spectrum of repertoire - from traditional and historical to Ann’s own compositions. Their collaboration extends to giving presentations on their research in related areas such as Gaelic harp mythology and the performance of medieval bardic poetry.

Admission is free. For more information contact [email protected] and 087 - 2178138.
