Drawing, decoration, and sacredness

ROMAN CATHOLIC churches, Islamic mosques, and Hindu temples are characterised by their intense decoration, artistry, and grandeur.

Decoration and ornamentation play an important role in the architectural and artistic attempts to glorify God, but why this approach?

The artist Kitty Rogers is currently spending time in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church as the TULCA Artist in Residence and while there she will explore how the ornamental and the decorative are used in spiritual spaces.

Through the processes of drawing and research she will make a series of works reflecting on the formation of spatial identity. As part of that, Kitty will host Relic…Artifact, a workshop in St Nicholas’ tomorrow from 4pm to 6.30pm.
