“PLEASE SIR, can I have some more?” is one of the most famous sentences ever uttered by a fictional charachter and it comes of course from Oliver Twist.
Oliver Twist, Charles Dicken’s second novel, published in 1838, tells the story of the boy who escapes a workhouse, joins a gang of pickpockets in London, but eventually finds a happy home with his aunt Agnes.
The novel has been adapted into numerous TV and film versions, and into the musical Oliver! by Lionel Bart in 1960 which features such well known songs as ‘Food Glorious Food’, ‘Consider Yourself’, and ‘You’ve Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two’.
Oliver! will be staged by the 9 Arch Claregalway Musical Society in the Town Hall Theatre from Wednesday November 18 to Saturday 21 at 8pm with a matinee on Saturday 21 at 2.30pm. The production is directed by Tim Landers with musical direction by Shane Farrell.
Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777.
