Kickboxing action

Galway Black Dragon kickboxer Sean Cumiskey, who is the current IKF All Ireland and five Nations Full Contact Kickboxing Champion, will jet out to Minnesota, USA this weekend with his coach Pete Foley to challenge for the vacant IKF world lightweight title.

Cumiskey’s opponent is North American champion and world no 1 60 kilo fighter Jordan Allan and the fight will be the main event on an-action packed full contact kickboxing and mixed martial arts (mma ) promotion put together by one of America’s top promoters, Mitz Bandeiras.

Cumiskey has been training twice a day for this fight under the watchful eye of coach Pete Foley and fully intends to bring the world title belt back to Galway.

Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club chief instructor Pete Foley was recently promoted to his 7th Dan Black Belt by the World Traditional Karate and Kickboxing Association for his ongoing work in the promotion of kickboxing in Ireland.

A second Galway kickboxer, Jason Ward of Ballybrit who trains under Denis Brosnan at the Galway Kickboxing Club in Westside, was involved in championship action.

Ward competed in the World Championships last week in Dublinm winning a prestigious silver medal. He beat the English champion in the semi-final, but lost by the narrowest of margins in the final against Ryan Frederick, the USA Champion .

Ward, who trains six days a week, is the current IKFI and WFC u-12 Irish Champion at 40kgs .He is the son of Martin and Ann Marie Ward and is currently a sixth class student at St Michaels Boys’ School in Mervue.
