“Evasive and obfuscatory” is how Labour Galway West TD Michael D Higgins has described the Minister for Education’s responses to his questions about Coláiste na Coiribe.
The Coláiste na Coiribe secondary school is currently operating out of a number of buildings on the Tuam Road while it awaits relocation on a proper school building. Dep Higgins recently pressed the Education Minister Batt O’Keeffe on the matter.
“I sought a definitive answer as to the position regarding the relocation of the school and whether it the proposed to rectify this situation and find adequate grounds for it,” he said.
In response, the Minister confirmed that a site had been purchased for the provision of a new school building, and that the Department was currently in the process of identifying what school projects are eligible for consideration for inclusion in the fourth bundle of PPP schools.
He indicated this announcement was imminent and that it would indicate if the school was to be considered at this stage.
“I will remain vigilant on this important matter,” said Dep Higgins. “It is beyond time that, for the sake of the pupils, teachers and parents at Coláiste na Coiribe, a suitable site for the school be finally located.”
