Kilkenny have broken Galway hearts many times over the years but Galway have also damaged the Black and Amber, including when they beat them in both the 2001 and 2005 All-Ireland hurling semi-finals.
Both were hugely significant in shaping the direction Kilkenny subsequently took under the direction of Brian Cody, who ends the decade on a record high after presiding over seven All-Ireland title wins, four of them consecutively since 2006.
This year, Cody combined managing Kilkenny on their record-breaking run with working on his autobiography, published recently. As part of a promotional tour for the book, Cody will visit Galway on Saturday. He will be in Hughes and Hughes in the Galway Shopping Centre from 11am to 1pm, and O’Grady’s in Gort at 4.30pm, where he will sign copies of his autobiography.
Apart from revealing the philosophies behind the success of his Kilkenny team, he also delves back into his own playing career which lasted 13 years at top level, during which he won every honour at all levels for club and county. The book also features Cody's personal diary of the 2009 season which ended in triumph as Kilkenny clinched the four-in-a-row in September.
“I promised an honest book and that’s what I’ve written. I hope it appeals not just to hurling people but to the wider community too,” said Cody.
Cody - The Autobiography is published by Irish Sports Publishing and co-written with Galwayman, Martin Breheny, GAA Editor of the Irish Independent.
