THE AWARD winning violinist Arve Tellefsen has declared Mari and Håkon Samuelsen to be “among the greatest string music talents in Norway”, and next week the duo will give a concert in Galway.
Mari and Håkon Samuelsen will present a concert entitled A Norwegian Vision in the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway, on Thursday November 12 at 8pm. The concert is presented by Music for Galway in association with NUIG Arts in Action.
Mari plays a GB Guadagnini violin (dating from 1753 ), on loan to her from an anonymous owner, while Håkon plays a Francesco Ruggieri cello from 1688 on loan from Anders Sveaas’ charitable foundation in Oslo.
With these instruments, the duo will perform Ole Bull’s ‘A Mountain Vision’, Bach’s ‘Chaconne’, Martinu’s Duo for violin and cello No 2, Hindemith’s Sonata for Cello (1923 ), Kodaly’s Duo for violin and cello, Op 7, and Handel/Halvorsen’s ‘Passacaglia’.
This unique sibling-duo are in high demand not only in their native Norway but also abroad, and have performed in England, Germany, The Netherlands, Russia, Hungary, Lithuania, Monaco, Spain, India, France, and Sweden. In June 2005 they made their Carnegie Hall debut with great success.
