An Taobh Tuathail live show and album launch

CIAN Ó Cíobháin, presenter of Raidió na Gaeltachta’s An Taobh Tuathail, will launch the programme’s third compilation CD at the Róisín Dubh next week with live bands and a DJ set.

An Taobh Tuathail is broadcast on Raidió na Gaeltachta, Mondays to Fridays from 11pm to 1pm. Since it first began in 1999, the show has become essential listening for anyone who wants to keep abreast of underground and innovative trends in rock, dance, electronic, and world music.

The annual An Taobh Tuathail live show in the Róisín Dubh takes place on Friday November 13 at 9pm. Performing on the night will be The Jimmy Cake and Tiny Magnetic Pets, a DJ set from Cian Ó Ciobhain, and the launch of the new album.

Cian’s new compilation, An Taobh Tuathail Vol III (Psychonavigation ) is a 15 track album which features electronica from Gdansk-based composer Jacasek and Berlin’s The Caretaker; a song from Austin band Peter & The Wolf; Animal Collective’s ‘Loch Raven; Circlesquare’s ‘Music For Satellites’; and Mount Kimbie’s ‘Maybes’, which Cian describes as a “magical dub-excursion”

Irish acts on the album include Kilkenny’s RSAG and Dublin’s Rollers/Sparkers. Galway is also represented by two tracks - ‘Frozen Grass’ by Loner Deluxe and ‘B-Movie Lightning’ by Mike Smalle.

Loner Deluxe is the alias of Galway’s Keith Wallace, who runs the indie/underground label Rusted Rail. The track by Mike Smalle, previously of Cane 141, is his début release under his birth name. “He played it at a party one night last year and bowled over everyone in the room,” remembers Cian. “I asked him there and then if I could include it.”

An Taobh Tuathail Vol III can be ordered from www.psychonavigation.com, Amazon, Play, Juno, HMV, and iTunes. See also www.rte.ie/rnag/antaobhtuathail html
