Cultural nights in Club Áras na nGael

Airneán sa gCathair is a new series of cultural evenings as Gaeilge which will take place on the second Tuesday of every month in Club Áras na nGael on Dominick Street.

On the opening night, which is this Tuesday at 8.15pm, the writer, actor, songwriter, playwright, and broadcaster Joe Steve Ó Neachtain will read from his works and talk about his life.

His drama series Baile an Droichid, which was broadcast on Raidió na Gaeltachta from 1985 to 1995, received the Jacobs award. His novel Clochmhóin received the Cló Iar-Chonnachta's literary award in 1998 and was nominated for The Irish Times Literary Prize in 1999.

He received Cló Iar-Chonnachta’s literary award for the second time in 2002 for his novel, Lámh Láidir (2001 ). His most recent published work is the play An Dé Deiridh (Cló Iar-Chonnachta, 2009 ). He also plays the role of Peadar in TG4’s Ros na Rún.

December will feature singer Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola from Inis Oírr, Aran Islands. In January Dermot Somers the intrepid walker will present a visual slide show of one of his journeys. In February, filmmaker Bob Quinn will present his documentary Fly-tipping in London.
