Free winter events at Coole Park

The Coole Park winter programme of events kicks off with an arts event this evening from 8pm to 9pm.

Generally held on Thursdays, this first event of the winter programme includes two performances by Mighty Tales, namely The Tale of Biddy Early and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Mighty Tales delight in playing small venues as they believe in taking shows to the people. The Tale of Biddy Early an original folk operetta, is based on the true life of the famous 'Witch of Clare'. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is Coleridge's epic narrative poem of betrayal and redemption, concerning a sailor, lost at sea among elemental forces, trying to find his way home, across an ocean populated by spirits.

To celebrate Hallowe’en, on Sunday November 1 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm a children’s drama entitled Tales from the Forest will be presented by regular visitors to Coole, the Dog and String Theatre. The show incorporates storytelling, traditional glove puppetry and life sized puppets. It is suitable for children aged four to 10 and their parents. Advanced booking is required for this show as places are limited.

The first of the heritage series of lectures takes place on November 2 from 8pm - 9pm. The heritage series of lectures takes place on the first four Mondays of November. There are two series of two lectures, with the first series of lectures entitled ‘Being Environmentally Friendly in the Home and Community’. The first lecture is on home composting by Mark Molloy, Assistant Environmental Awareness Officer, Galway County Council.

In the Thursday arts series, on November 5 renowned musician and singer song writer John Faulkner, currently musician in residence with Galway County and Galway City Councils, presents Farewell to Eirinn. Every province has contributed to the great Irish diaspora so it is not surprising that there are so many songs that refer to emigration. Farewell to Eirinn presents a varied selection of these songs.

Admission to all events on the Coole Park winter programme is free so go along and bring a friend. If you have not received a copy of the programme or would like details on any of the events contact Coole Park Visitor Centre on 091 631804.
