Kinvara Children’s Centre opens after five year campaign

The official opening of the Kinvara Community Children’s Centre, which aims to provide a ‘quality, affordable, consistent, and flexible childcare service’, will take place on Sunday, November 8 from 2 to 5pm.

The centre, which is to be made accessible to all children in the community, is the brainchild of a voluntary committee which was formed in June 2004 under the auspices of the Kinvara Community Council.

Following a five year campaign and upon receipt of a €1.4 million grant under the National Development Plan 2007 - 2013 this state of the art facility opened its doors on July 1, 2009. The Children’s centre employs 14 fully qualified staff and is managed by Edelle Collins, under the authority of the Kinvara Community Council.

The Kinvara Community Children’s Centre is open Monday to Friday 7.30am to 6.30pm, 51 weeks of the year, closing for one week at Christmas. The age range of the children is three months to 12 years old and the centre can cater for 77 children at any one time. Services offered include a baby room, a toddler room, pre-school room, a sessional playschool, Montessori, and afterschool service. The cost for full day care for one child is €150 per week, however the centre does offer part-time care; the morning session, 8.30am to 1.30pm, and the afternoon session, 1.30pm to 6.30pm, costs €75 per week.

The Kinvara Community Children’s Centre is a not-for-profit organisation and is funded from the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, and parental fees.

The official opening day will be a family day with fun activities for the children. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend the event.
